As Aguilas enjoys an unusually benign microclimate, with warm breezes all year long. All kinds of sports and activities can be carried out not only in summer but in winter too. The sea-bed provides an incomparable wealth of flora and fauna which together with the geological structure of the shoreline is a delight for all lovers of under-water sports. Divering clubs in the area provide all the facilities necessary right through the year.

Furthermore, there is wide variety of activities and events on offer at many sporting clubs.

There is also plenty to interest those interested in rock-climbing, walking and mountaineering. Three well signposted trails cover different areas of great scenic beauty. They are Castello de San Juan, Hornillo-Fraile and Cope which provide the opportunity to view different local species some of which are protected.

For people who like shopping there is a wide range of shops available including local products, pottery, articles made of Sparta grass and even wine barrels. The Saturday market is always fascinating.



Fairs and fiestas of Aguilas

Among the many traditional festivities which are held in Aguilas and district the following are recommended:

January

Weekend closest to San Anton. Fiesta in Tebar.

February

Aguilas Carnival, which has taken place for over 200 years, with large and impressive street processions and competitions. (The Festivities start on the Saturday before Lent).

July

The begining of the summer season is marked with with outside celebrations including a fair, theatre and sports competitions, etc.

August

The whole of August is a fiesta in Aguilas, with a fair, competitions, regattas, sports tournaments, games, cultural events, theatre and exhibitions, etc.
